From the President
General Glenn M. Walters United States Marine Corps (Retired) 20th President of The Citadel
I am pleased to announce the arrival of Our Mighty Citadel 2026, the college’s new strategic plan.
This vital document is born from months of commitment and planning involving stakeholders across campus, honoring this institution’s 177-year past, and ensuring it continues to thrive for generations to come. The Citadel is a unique brand, and like most successful organizations, relies upon a strategic plan to advance our mission and guarantee our goals align to protect our brand.
Strategic plans are metronomes guiding us through our day-to-day activities, and keep us focused. Our mission to educate and develop principled leaders remains firm, and the roadmap created by this strategic plan organizes the future so The Citadel continues to grow. It is critical we offer students relevant programing and serve as a fundamental resource to our neighbors.
Academic programing and how we interact with the region and the community are the centerpiece of the strategic plan. For the first time, we incorporate athletics planning into the plan. As you review these pages, you will see the importance of infrastructure to our future. As I write, Bastin Hall nears completion, the new home of the Baker School of Business. We installed new turf in Johnson Hagood Stadium. Capers Hall replacement is on track, and we next turn our attention toward engineering and biology facilities, and the barracks. The strategic plan is essential to completing these projects, and so is your support. We must lay out our plans and identify our desired end states so we can develop our strategy and identify potential funding sources.
Our Mighty Citadel is a carefully plotted road illuminated by six critical initiatives making us a stronger, more vibrant institution as we continue our time-honored tradition of educating and developing principled leaders. I invite you to join us as we execute the plan together.
Glenn M. Walters, ’79 General, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.) President
